***Please note that new orders will be delivered between now and late May to early June. Timing of delivery will be based on your location in the U.S., the plants on your order and how many orders were placed before yours***

Please watch below for updates regarding our Spring 2020 shipping schedule.  We will provide updates as needed regarding any helpful information we find may be helpful to you.

How it works:  We have been accepting orders since September 2019 for the spring 2020 shipment.  When we begin shipping, we generally send orders out in the sequence that they were placed.  However, we are mindful of customers located in warmer and colder climates, and typically ship to them earlier or later on in our shipping process.  We are also respectful of orders that have been previously scheduled for delivery during a specific week, and work those in during the process accordingly.

The entire shipping season typically takes 8 to 10 weeks to complete.  If an email address was provided with your order, you will receive a shipping confirmation on the day your order ships.  The email will contain the FedEx tracking number(s) so you can track your shipment(s) online.

Spring 2020 shipping updates:

March 15th, 2020: Very limited shipping has begun with about 450 orders shipped to date. Many SKUs are not yet available for shipping at this time, including most coniferous trees. We are focusing on shipping available deciduous trees and shrubs as well as conifer plugs to those in warmer climates. We anticipate that another 500+ orders will ship the week of March 16th, involving the same type of orders. If weather cooperates, we expect to see limited shipping of some conifers the week of March 30th or April 6th. Please remember that lifting the trees from the ground is only the first step. Sorting, counting and grading the nursery stock is the most time consuming part of the process on the end of any grower.

March 20th, 2020: Please know that all businesses which fall under the classification of agricultural will be allowed to remain open though any “non-essential business” closures. This includes Chief River Nursery and our subsidiary PottedTrees.com. In addition, the transportation industry will remain open which will allow your trees to be delivered as originally intended. Our company has increased our sanitation schedule and have worked with employees to make sure anyone feeling unwell stays at home. We continue to ship limited orders based on what stock we have available and the customer’s location. If your area does not show frost or snow cover on our maps, and the 10-day forecast appears to be favorable weather for planting, we will ship your order based on the criteria outlined at the top of this page. We hope you are healthy and looking forward to getting outside and planting your trees and shrubs when they arrive!

March 25th, 2020: Our shipping operations are ongoing, having shipped approximately 1,800 early orders to date. We will continue to ship on a limited basis for the next 1-2 weeks before we ramp up operations to full capacity. The majority of our conifers will be available for shipping starting next week and we’ll begin to ship orders which contain these trees to southern portions of the country. There will still be a handful of SKUs not available for shipping until mid-April. If you live in a warmer part of the country, and your order contains one of these SKU’s, we will ship your order immediately once your entire order is available.

April 20th, 2020: Shipping operations are ongoing and at full capacity, having shipped approximately 6,500 orders to date. The Covid-19 situation has dramatically increased calls and emails which are up 30% over and above anticipated peak season volumes. Our large crews are working 6 days per week picking, packing and shipping an estimated 14,000 to 15,000 orders containing millions of trees. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we process an enormous volume of nursery stock. We kindly ask that you refrain from calling or emailing for status updates, and instead watch your inbox for your shipping notification.  We estimate that most orders will be delivered by June 1st, with priority given to southern states and orders containing bare root evergreens, as deciduous trees and shrubs have an even  larger and later planting window. IE: If you live in the southern half of the U.S. and have evergreens on your order, you are more likely to get your order before someone in northern MN which has primarily deciduous plants.

April 28th, 2020:  We’ve experienced a dramatic surge in orders the last 3 weeks due to the enormous amount of online ordering happening. We are shipping at full capacity and have increased the size of our crew, and have added and lengthened available shifts to try and mitigate the increase.
